There has been a lot of talk about critical reforms in Washington. The Democratic caucus wants to tackle issues of corruption including campaign finance. But I personally think there are even more fundamental things within our democratic system, and that is how we actually vote. Here in the US we are accustomed to a system referred to as first past the post. For the most part, this is the only system we know and may even assume it is the only way to vote. There are, in fact, numerous different voting systems, each with different types of outcomes, both good and bad.

Now, a lot of these have been about voting as an electorate. But within legislatures, there are also reforms that can be made. Wired magazine had an interesting piece about the Colorado House of Representatives.
